For more than two decades, our physician and health coach have served the medical needs of families right here in Lynwood, California. They opened their bilingual family clinic because they saw a community that needed providers who didn’t just speak their language. They needed providers who understood their lives.
Being Hispanic themselves, they understand the culture. They know the food. They know the family dynamics. They know what it’s like to sit across the table from an abuela who doesn’t trust doctors, or a father who won’t admit he’s scared, or a young mother who’s been told her weight is her fault.
We’ve watched this story play out for 20 years: a patient gets a diagnosis, gets a medication, loses some weight, and then life gets in the way.
We built our health coaching program because we got tired of watching it happen. We know from experience, and from our own families, that lasting change doesn’t come from a bottle. It comes from education, support, and someone who holds you accountable even when you don’t want to be held accountable.
Both our physician and our health coach have several family members living with diabetes and obesity. They’ve spent the last 20 years helping them manage it. This work isn’t just professional for us. It’s personal.
